If Schultz intends to sign with TO I think Burke sends a pick to Murray as some sort of compensation. It won't equal the value of Schultz but it will be at least something to help soften the blow.

He wouldn't want to tarnish his good relationship with Murray or the Ducks organization by feeding the tampering speculation being thrown out there.

Maybe I'm missing something, but Kelowna is about a 6 to 6-1/2hr flight to TO. So I don't really get your thinking here. In fact, I believe Anaheim is actually closer to Kelowna than TO. Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton would be better fits as they are about a 4, 7 & 10hrs. car drive respectively.

Calgary would welcome him with open arms.

Wow… you clearly don’t know your geography. California is MUCH closer to “home” than Toronto!! Just because it’s in Canada that doesn’t mean he is closer to Kelowna lol. That’s like saying a California native leaves Vancouver to play in Boston because it’s in the States and therefore “closer to home”

The kid is still in his early 20's. I don't care who you are, you don't go home until you experience life outside of your circle of influence. Raise your hand if you graduated high school even college, and you couldn't wait to get the hell out of Dodge. This guy is an *ss hat. Be grateful that an organization drafts you to play professional hockey for a living. Prove your worth, when you become a UFA, then you can go home.

On a side note I think we should have pictures or a Barbie doll of Schultz with a ballerina too-too's when he shows up at the Honda Center with his new team. Let him know how much he is acting like a prima donna. Pri-Ma Donn-A clap, clap, clap, clap, clap.

Was thinking the exact same thing. Kelowna's as close to TO as Anaheim is to Detroit..........right around the corner. ha

Read my mind buddy. Have never heard Calgary being as one of the destinations & we have a number of players including Iggy who resides in Kelowna in the off season. If he wants a shot at top 4, holy smokes, Calgary have spaces on D so wide open, he can drive his motorhome through.

Sorry for not being clearer. I meant because he is Canadian and his buddy is already in Toronto. I know B.C. is closer to Anaheim. I will clarify what i meant.

While we still don't know exactly why Schultz snubbed the Ducks for another NHL club, it has been widely speculated that the talented defender wants to play in his native Canada.

Born in Kelowna, B.C. , most assume that the Toronto Maple Leafs would make the most sense and with former defensive partner Jake Gardiner having been traded there by the Ducks already it seems like the best fit.

Even Eklund has a rumor with Edmonton trading their first pick to the Leafs for Gardiner with the intentions of reuniting Gardiner and Schultz in Edmonton.

It would give him a chance to play in Canada and remain together with his old friend.

I changed a few words to clarify my point better. Again, sorry for the confusion.

Is it just me or is scoffing at playing in Anaheim just so he can play with his buddy a tad odd? I can see it in the case of Selanne/Kariya later in the career but right off the bat?

It's just one of the few reasons to justify what he has done. It may not even be the case. The fact is, until he gives an explanation it's all conjecture.

if a guy is dumb enough to want to play in Canada over Anaheim (and particularly Toronto), do you really want that guy on your team?

It was pretty clear from the begining what you meant. Some people just have issues with reading comprehension

In a few years nobody will care Schultz didn't want to play in Anaheim. No one remembers/cares that Blake Wheeler did the same thing- after being by no less than Wayne Gretzky.

Who talks about that now? No one.

Good idea. He is a perfect example of a prima donna. Can't wait to see how his career starts off. Here's hoping that he flounders like a fish outta water

I know Murray is taking a lot of flack for the Schultz situation, but is there anything he could have done if the kid didn't want to play in Anaheim?
As well, he didn't get a window to make something happen like offer him around knowing so

According to several Murray haters on the Anaheim Calling blog site...HE SHOULDA F#CKING KNOWN!!! It doesn't matter that Schultz lied to Boudreau, Niedermayer, McNab in their collective faces, Bar-Stool Bob should have used his ESP or the Vulcan mind-meld on Justin to deduce what he was REALLY thinking. Because he didn't he should be fired immediately.

The kid is in his early 20's. Beleive it or not, he is going to make questionable decisions.

He said he would sign, and he changed his mind. That is the extent of what he has done wrong, and it is absolutely no reason to villanize the player.
